Helen Millicer is co-founder of ClimateWise Associations Australia. CWA is a newly formed support program helping Australian associations act on climate risk and reduce emissions. This program suited to industry, professional and community associations and their members provides relevant, free and accessible resources for them to become leaders for a climate-wise low emission future.

Helen has been fortunate to work with some wonderful Australians on stimulating and important projects, both as clients and partners in delivery. Here is a selection.

The New Energy Job Fund is Victorian Government’s $20M investment in the renewable energy industry, community and jobs. Funded projects are impressive and will yield great benefit for decades. Helen is a member of the Independent Expert Panel reviewing and recommending projects to the Minister.
This new business venture is bringing much needed international expertise in anaerobic digestion and technology to Australia. This will provide renewable energy, nutrient rich liquid and humus to nourish our ancient soils. Helen contributes knowledge and stakeholder networks.
We consulted and devised Australia’s first comprehensive recycling scheme addressing all forms of expanded polystyrene in ACT from food and product packaging to insulation. Team members: David Rako, DJR Environmental, Russ Martin, MS2, Kyle O’Farrell, Envisage Works
We consulted and assessed all councils’ kerbside collection services identifying optimal operations and sectoral changes from training, regional variations to collection frequency. Team members: David Rako, DJR Environmental, Tanya Burdett, Nation Partners
We designed this Food Organics Recycling Guide for all food outlets. All options (from food donation to large compost systems) are included in the Ready Reckoner, case studies and financial calculator tool. Team members: David Rako, DJR Environmental
As Victoria’s largest volume producer of quality compost, Enviromix proposed acquisition of a dairy and poultry farm was perfect for an integrated, sustainable operation including renewable energy with 1MW anaerobic digester. Helen managed delicate and extensive community and stakeholder engagement.
This Cemeteries Trust is the largest landholder in its sector in Australia. Climate change, energy, waste and water pose challenges for the organisation. Helen produced their first Sustainability Report and subsequent Strategy and Action Plan.
We researched, consulted and recommended a recycling scheme to address the coming wave of 1-10kW battery systems. Assessments covered all batteries chemistries, standards, costs and regulatory models. Team members: Libby Chaplin, ABRI, Nick Florin and Damien Guirco, UTS
This highly detailed benchmark study was undertaken in Banyule and 9 other comparable councils. Data and insights addressed every element of waste and recycling services to establish benchmarks and efficiency opportunities. Team member: David Rako, DJR Environmental
This national industry association required independent market research into the needs of members, especially manufacturers. Over successive years assessments covered: environmental regulatory compliance, energy trends and AiGroup fees and services. Team member: Jacinta Burke
This Plastics Recovery Market study remains the first and only assessment of all polymers and the full plastics supply in Australia for packaging and durables. We addressed trends in the sector, material streams, value, capacity and priorities for industry and government. Team members: Kyle O’Farrell, Peter Allan at SRU
We produced seven fact sheets on sustainability and productivity with practical tips and links, aimed at small-medium business segments, ranging from regional/remote SMEs to manufacturers and commercial premises. Team members: Aaron Yuen, Rob Clinch, ARUP
